This clinical course is an extension of the Care of the Childbearing Family, which continues to build on central competencies of the nursing program. The focus remains on nursing, nursing process with emphasis on providing nursing care for obstetrical and newborn clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and prior obstetrical experiences. The student will implement plans of care for obstetrical and newborn clients experiencing variations and alterations iin life functions in a variety of clinical settings. Health promotion, communication, and legal-ethical aspects of obstetrical nursing care are emphasized.
