This class will focus on the fundamentals of visual design, layout and mechanical reproduction of printed communications. Topics will include a historical overview of typography and printing, basic principles of composition, a study of type and its architecture, non-digital mechanical preparation, mounting and presentation techniques, and graphic arts terminology, as well as a brief introduction to electronic prepress production.
