This is the second of four courses in Southwest s Medical Transcription program. This hands-on program utilizes the poplar SUM Medical Transcription Program. Medical Transcriptionists work in a variety of settings (medical clinics, doctor s offices, hospitals, private transcription businesses and home offices). There is a shortage of qualified Medical Transcriptionists locally and nationwide. This career requires skilled, educated professionals who transcribe doctors notes concerning patient care, surgical procedures, autopsies and laboratory reports. This Beginning Medical Transcription course covers transcription that is generally used in a physician s office, group practice, or small clinic and takes approximately 200 hours to complete the transcription and all the recommended course work. Through a combination of independent study and open lab times staffed with a qualified medical transcriptionist, four courses are required to complete the program: Beginning Medical Transcription Module I, Beginning Medical Transcription Module II, Intermediate Surgery Transcription, and Advanced Medical Transcription. This program uniquely integrates Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Transcribing in a way that helps students become prepared for a career as a Medical Transcriptionist. Students who complete all four courses in the program and will receive a Medical Transcription CEU Certificate. Students will need to have access to a computer. The textbooks and equipment used in the first module will also be used for Module II.
