This course is designed to give Respiratory Therapy students insight into special considerations involved in the respiratory care of the neonatal and pediatric patient. Emphasis will be given to lung embryology and morphology, abnormal cardiopulmonary and congenital anomalies of the newborn and overall respiratory care of the distressed neonate. Also discussed will be respiratory disease of infancy and childhood. Particular attention will be given to the specialized equipment used to maintain, monitor, and treat the neonatal pediatric patient. Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite: AHS 105; AHS 114; BIO 132; BIO 133; and all preceding RT courses.
