Description:
This senior level course is designed to provide the learner with a foundation in cancer management. Topics such as epidemiology, etiology, pathology and the principles of radiation therapy technology will be discussed. Students will be challenged in several areas of learning including quizzes, unit exams, a research paper and the interviewing of a patient. One of the overall objectives of this course is to provide students with the tools (knowledge and understanding) to solve problems associated with technical radiation therapy, and to think critically when relating to patients and colleagues (attitude). Therapists who know how to seek the right answers to questions and solve problems make better resources. Ultimately, this course will provide the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of all the cancer patients that students care for. Students will become one of the most important persons the patient will see during his/her treatment. Prerequisite(s): RDT 103; RDT 110.
