This course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of aseptic procedures, which will include sterilization and disinfection, patient preparation, proper gowning and gloving techniques for patient care in the cardiac catheterization lab, and instrument table setup. Also discussed will be such topics as the history of cardiovascular medicine, professional organizations and affiliations, internships, legal and ethical responsibilities in patient care, clinical indications for cardiac testing, medical terminology, HIPPA standards in healthcare, and living wills. Blood pressure evaluation, heart murmur determination and vital sign instruction will be included. Prerequisite: CVT program acceptance
