The motor section of this course covers: different types of motors and their applications; over-current protection devices, conductors that connect the power source to the motor windings; reduced voltage starters; protection and selection of motor conductors used to control motors; sizing and selection of motor disconnects; sizing raceways, junction boxes, gutters, or wire-ways that supply an individual motor or group of motors; troubleshooting procedures; and general motor maintenance techniques. The transformer section covers: understanding and recognizing different types of transformers and their applications; sizing transformers to supply various types of loads; sizing overcurrent protection for primary and secondary sides of transformers; sizing conductors for the supply and load side of transformers; sizing capacitors to correct power factor; connections and hookups; troubleshooting procedures; and general maintenance techniques. In addition, plant power factor correction; harmonics; and power quality issues are discussed. Prerequisite: MFG 101. 3 lecture hrs/wk. W
