This course explores values, traditions, and characteristics of the diverse cultural groups in our society. The course provides basic information on a variety of populations served by human service agencies. Specific populations addressed include various racial and ethnic groups, and persons who are homeless, battered, chemically dependent, disabled, or mentally ill. This course also covers issues raised in a variety of family structures. The intent of this course is for students to develop a greater understanding and appreciation for individuals who may be applying for or receiving services. Students will demonstrate cultural and gender sensitivity, data privacy and utilize ethical practices. (3 C: 3 lect/pres, 0 lab, 0 other) Note: Offered at Pine Tech
