Students will be enabled to apply the fundamental skills and knowledge required to function as an entry level First Responder. Emphasis will be placed on skills needed for the recognition of, and emergency care of sick or injured people, utilizing basic EMS equipment and assisting Emergency Medical Technicians once they have arrived. This is a Department of Transportation designed course for non-ambulance personnel such as law enforcement, fire, rescue, DNR, industry, and private citizens who are involved in pre-hospital emergency care and are first on the scene in an emergency. This course is taught utilizing the most current US DOT First Responder Curriculum and is approved by and taught to the standards of the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board (EMSRB). Upon passing this course the student will be registered with the Minnesota EMSRB as a First Responder. First Responder Certification is valid for two (2) years. This course is approved for Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).
