4 class hrs/wk, 4 cr. Introduces American Sign Language (ASL), supported by expressive and receptive readiness activities, finger-spelling techniques, vocabulary, grammar, and guided communication. Covers Deaf Culture and community as well as historical aspects through reading and writing. Uses ASL as the primary language in the classroom. Course has an online component that requires students to use internet resources for coursework. Prerequisite: Internet skills required.
