Institution:
Northern Maine Community College
Subject:
Description:
class hours ECD 245 and ECD 247 were created to help people working with families learn how to support families in moving from dependence on government programs to becoming more self reliant, contributing members of their communities. While both were created primarily for paraprofessionals, they are also useful for social workers and others with extensive professional training because they provide the most comprehensive and understandable guide available to the empowerment and family support approach to family development. ECD 245 will focus on understanding family development, the empowerment approach, building partnerships based on shared power, developing a personal vision of your work, establishing mutually respectful, trusting relationships with families and communication skills. Students must complete both ECD 245 and ECD 247 to receive credit.
