This course will provide students with an introduction to library organization. Students will be introduced to the tasks performed by library technical services departments and will learn cataloging and processing terminology. In addition, students will be introduced to cataloging reference tools and resources, such as AACR2, Sears & Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress Classification systems, and online bibliographic utilities. Students will gain knowledge of U.S. MARC coding and learn to apply it to local cataloging practice, and will learn basic processing and preservation techniques. Offered online from Western Nebraska Community College.
