A study of programming in the COBOL language. Topics include: divisions of a COBOL program, data item description, record description, arithmetic verbs, verbs to implement the three basic control structures, single and multiple control breaks, report writer, pseudocode, structured program design, single and multiple level tables, basic screen I/O, subprograms, data validation, sorting, file maintenance using indexed sequential files, modification of existing programs, and use of the debugger. Students will design, code, test, and debug programs.
