3 hours credit Elementary Algebra is an introductory algebra course for the student who has a solid foundation in arithmetic, signed numbers, and basic equations. Topics studied will include fundamentals of algebra, solutions of linear equations and inequalities, problem solving, graphs of linear equations, operations with polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations, rational expressions, and radical expressions. Students will be expected to use appropriate technology as one tool to achieve competency in Elementary Algebra. Prerequisite: Grade of "B" or better in MATH-0097, MathEssentials. Read ACCUPLACER score of 60 or better. Mandatory placement for first time college students or first time math students is based on the ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra test. The following scores determine placement in math courses: 0-30 MATH-0097 Math Essentials 31-70 MATH-0099 Elementary Algebra 71-99 MATH-0104 Intermediate Algebra 100-120 Enrollment is open First-time college students who have taken the ACT or SAT within the last 24 months may be exempt from taking the placement evaluation in Math if their score is ACT 23/SAT 575 or higher in math.
