2 hours credit Songwriting introduces students to knowledge and skills which will enable them to develop their skills in commercial songwriting, and write more effective songs. Concepts of form and structure, melody, harmony, lyrics, orchestration, instrumentation and arranging techniques will be studied. Students will analyze commercially successful songs. Students will write one original song in addition to exercises given throughout the semester relating to the topic being studied. Prerequisites: MUSC III Music Theory I, or permission of instructor.
