3 hours credit A general education course, Music Appreciation may be used to satisfy part of the Humanities requirement in the General Education Core requirements. This course provides students with a basic introduction and background in music listening. The focus is on art music (the classical traditions of Western and non-Western music), covering all periods from medieval to modern. Students develop an understanding of the elements that create music, an ability to identify music by historical periods, and an acquaintance with a wide variety of music styles and forms.
