Prerequisite or corequisite: MATH 171 This introductory course is designed to give a general overview of water chemistry and water treatment in power plants. Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to describe the concepts and solve the problems associated with water treatment in boiler operations. Topics will include hydrology, specific gravity of liquids, acids, bases, measurements, cooling towers, clarification, ion exchange and filtration. This course is appropriate for power plant technology majors and other interested students. 3 hrs. lecture/wk.
