MFAB 160 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

Prerequisite: MFAB 121 or MFAB 130 This course will cover the basic theory of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). The student will weld on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum in a variety of positions on both fillet and groove welds using the GTAW process, with guided AWS U-bend test being performed on mild steel. AWS qualification/certification will be awarded to successful students who qualify weld to code standards. Students will also use the plasma arc cutting system (PAC) on selected assignments. The students will be required to provide ANSI Z87 safety glasses and may be expected to provide other basic hand tools and/or equipment. 1 hrs. lecture, 6 hrs. lab/wk. Associated Costs: In addition to the course tuition, fees, and textbooks, this course has additional expense considerations that are estimated to be $30 to $150.
