Prerequisite: MUS 166 This class is an intermediate-level course for the student seeking instruction in the craft of musical composition. Traditional compositional techniques and concepts will be studied through demonstration and practice. Students will enhance their ability to use a computer to notate their compositions, will begin to work with nonfunctional tonal harmony, will write music for SATB choir or for vocal soloist, and will have a piece performed during a music department recital. 1 hr. lecture/wk.
