Prerequisite: MUS 167 This course is an advanced-level class for students seeking further instruction in the craft of musical composition. Traditional compositional techniques and concepts will be studied through demonstration and practice. Students will refine their ability to use a computer to notate their compositions, will continue to work with nonfunctional tonal harmony, will write music for larger ensembles, will have a piece performed in a music department recital, and will compile a portfolio of their work. 1 hr. lecture/wk.
