Pediatric Nursing enhances the student's knowledge of children and their families, thereby expanding his or her role in developing the unique skills required to assess, analyze, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of children. Emphasis is placed on supporting children and families during normal growth and development sequences as well as nursing care of the ill and/or disabled child. Concepts of communication, teaching-learning, legal aspects, cultural diversity, nutrition, and accountability are discussed in relation to adaptive and maladaptive responses of children. Clinical experiences include observation and care of children in community and acute care settings. Prerequisites: NURS 2104, BIOL 2214, BIOL 2224, and PSYC 2103.
