This course is for anyone who wishes to improve reading speed and comprehension. As a result of using the computer program that is part of this course, most students will at least double their reading rate within a quarter while maintaining or improving their comprehension. Students will also learn techniques such as skimming and scanning to increase reading efficiency and flexibility. In addition to specific reading assignments and quizzes online, students must complete lessons using The Ultimate Speed Reader software program. Students may purchase the software to use at home, or they may complete the lessons in any Metro Academic Resource Center (ARC). This class does not meet as a group at a set time or place, so it fits well with most student schedules. Prerequisites The ability to navigate the Internet . Students who enroll in RDLS 1160 must have access to The Ultimate Speed Reader software. They may either purchase it to use at home, or use it in any campus ARC (Academic Resource Center).
