This course provides an overview of the healthcare field. Topics include healthcare delivery systems, history of health care, careers in health care, personal qualities of healthcare workers, principles of teamwork, time management, human growth and development, cultural diversity, safety issues, and computer technology in healthcare settings. The components of healthcare facilities, including the governing boards, the administration, and the professional/medical staff, will be covered. Strategies for student success in HIMS (Health Information Management Systems) will be explored. Current issues in health care will be addressed in order to enrich the student's understanding and breadth of knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and the roles and functions of various healthcare professionals.
