Students gain knowledge of various family life styles while exploring a problem-oriented, practical approach to child guidance with emphasis on the development of positive parent-child relationships through effective communication skills. This course introduces the techniques of effective parenting, with emphasis upon how teachers may best provide support and inform families regarding children's needs. Problem prevention and resolution, nurturing self-esteem in children and building effective, collaborative relationships between teachers and families are covered. Sensitivity to the unique needs of the individual child and family are stressed.
