Prerequisite: Enrollment in nursing program or department approval. One year of high school algebra or MAT 104 with a grade of "C" or better or math placement into MAT 108. This course will study problem solving related to preparation of oral and parenteral medications for administration, as specified by medication order and medication available. The problems studied will include equations involving percents, fractions, and decimals, conversions with units of measure, determinations of quantities of medications to be administered and reconstitution or dilution of various preparations. A lab component will introduce use of medication calculations, conversions, medication administration and mathematical conversions and institute reading medication orders, medication preparations, and syringes related to medication administration and treatments.
