Focuses specifically on a physician's office or outpatient facility. The students will learn the history of coding, what part HIPAA plays in the administration of coding and the appropriate use of the ICD-9-CM to find diagnoses, co-morbidities and complications for billing purposes. Case studies are used to simulate the real-life circumstances of an office. Prerequisite: ME 181 & ME 182 is recommended, but may be taken concurrently. People who are currently working in the medical field may qualify for the course without completing ME 181.
