The changing configura- tions of American culture and its modes of expression, reli- gion, politics, and literacy are discussed. Studies the rise of Federalists, the War of 1812, and the emergence of the Jack- sonian Movement. Special emphasis on economic, political, and social forces from colonial times to the Civil War.
