Early 20th century tonal harmonies; quartal, quintal, secundal harmonies, polychords, pandiatonicism, synthetic scales, bitonality & polytonality & bimodality. Includes such rhythmic methods as polyrhythms, polymeters & asymmetrical meters. Intervallic organizational methods (atonality), serial procedures set theory & recent indeterminacy and instrumental sounds & textures will be explored. Time permitting, theoretical properties of popular music & jazz will be analyzed.
