Topics include the birth of civilization in Mesopotamia; the development of religious faiths and forms, including the origins of Judaism, Christianity and Islam; the rise and fall of ancient empires, including those of Greece, Rome, and Persia; the nature and development of medieval Europe; the origin of the modern nation-state; the Protestant Reformation; and European exploration and expansion into the Americas.
