0 Cr. Hrs The course is an introduction to the fundamental and introductory skills for ward or unit clerks in health care facilities. Students will expand their knowledge of the multiskilled health care worker. The content of the course includes the role and responsibilities of the unit clerk, communications and interpersonal relationships, medical terminology, anatomy, legal and ethical responsibilities, management skills, transcription of physicians| orders, problem solving, and employment skills. Practice of skills within a laboratory setting and application of the skills in the actual work environment are essential parts of the course. Graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination sponsored by the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators. Prerequisite: CNA certification.
