Tis course covers an introduction to hematology, hematopoiesis, manual blood counts, hematocrit and hemoglobin determinations. RBC indices, normal blood smear evaluations and the WBC diferential; manual reticulocytes and eosinophils counts; introduction to coagulations with a study of platelets, clotting factors, intrinsic and extrinsic systems and basic coagulation tests. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Admission to the Clinical Laboratory Technology program/plan 236, and Clinical Laboratory Technology 106 course. 1 lecture and 2 lab hours per week. 2 credit hours.
