216-To further demonstrate the role of sonography in the evaluation of the cardiovascular system. The student will demonstrate knowledge of cardiac development in the embryonic period, and the expected changes in cardiac structures at birth. The student will become familiar with congenital cardiac abnormalities which may be followed into or manifest into adulthood. The student will recognize various cardiac disease processes and their effects on the heart sonographically, and will demonstrate proficiency in performing 2-D, M-Mode and Doppler examinations of the heart, also sonographically evaluating cardiac structures in a diseased state.; class 3 hours, lab 1 hour. [S] 226-To further demonstrate the role of sonography in the evaluation of the cardiovascular system. The student will demonstrate knowledge of additional cardiac testing procedures used in the clinical setting. The student will become familiar with stress echo, echocardiography contrast agents, and the clinical indications of each. The student will recognize various cardiac disease processes and their effects on the heart, and will also demonstrate knowledge of other cardiac imaging modalities and their roles in evaluating cardiac structures (e.g., cardiac nuclear medicine testing and cardiac catheterization).
