3 credit hours A studio introduction to basic jewelry and metalsmithing processes, materials, tools and equipment. Basic techniques such as sawing, soldering and cold connecting sheet metal (silver, copper, brass) are introduced. Craftsmanship, health work habits and studio safety are emphasized. Historical and contemporary aesthetics and concepts in art metals and jewelry design are examined. Art 1101 and 1152 are highly recommended. (6 lab hours)
