This course is a study of the rudiments of music and the skills of simple notation. The course comprises a study of elementary diatonic harmony, including primary triads and and inversions, dominant sevenths and inversions, cadences, part-writing procedures from thorough-bass figures or given melodies and simple harmonization of original diatonic melodies in major and harmonic minor. Appropriate scores, including those from performing groups, are analyzed. (Offered fall semester)
