This class is a competency based overview of the institutions of state and local government in the United State federal system, and the ever-changing environs in which they exist. Students will develop background information needed to to gain a thorough understanding of how state and local governments operate, the structure of powers of the local government bodies, the problems and opportunities related to inter-governmental relations, current trends in the consolidation and proliferation of state and local bodies, how they compare, and how they affect citizenry. A special focus of the course is the indiviual student's development as a member of a community learners.
