This is a beginning medical coding course designed to provide students with the skills needed to be a successful medical coder. Course will include an introduction to current procedural terminology (CPT) with an introduction to the CPT manual, followed by in-depth explanation of the sections found in the code set, an overview of the ICD-9-CM codes and their use in medical coding; and an overview of reimbursement which ties everything together with the reimbursement process, making the connections between coding and insurance. Prerequisites: BIOL 2373 (3 credit hours, 48 lecture hours, 0 lab hours)
