This course will show the socialization and support systems of the young child by focusing on the relationships between the child, family, community, and early childhood educators. The course will include a study of parenting styles, family and community lifestyles and peer relations, investigating the intertwined relationships of the individual, family, peer groups and mass media. Effective listening and spoken techniques in parent/teacher conferences are developed along with other communication skills. The intellectual and emotional growth of young children and parents will be taught along with learning how to develop strategies for managing stressful situations. Co-Requisite: CHLD 1102 for all AA and AAS Early Childhood students (3 credit hours, 48 lecture hours, 0 lab hours)
