Prerequisite: None Th is is an introductory course for a beginning network technician to give them a basic understanding of the terminology and acronyms used in hardware data communications as it applied to a LAN (Local Area Networking). LAN I course covers the diff erent types of cabling hardware used in networking as coax, UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and fi ber optics. Students are introduced to the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) reference model and the fundamentals of TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Th is course focuses on the physical layer of the OSI model and the networking standards covered by IEEE 802.3 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) & EIA/TIA-568 (Electronic Industries Alliance/ Telecommunication Industry Association) Lan I course includes both theory and hands-on training of diff erent cabling techniques and testing.
