Prerequisite: None Th e student will be introduced to the principles of heat engines, energy transformation, volumetric effi ciency and the 4-stroke cycle. Factors aff ecting power, requirements and confi gurations of piston engines, construction methods, materials and nomenclature will be covered. Th e student will be able to explain piston engine theory and energy transformation as well as calculate horse power, valve timing and compression ratios. Th e student will also be able to explain factors aff ecting volumetric effi ciency, identify all reciprocating engine parts and use correct data in doing so. (3/30/45/0/0/10)
