This course surveys the history of Islam in America from the earliest years of the African slave population, the antebellum period through the successive waves of immigration from the Muslim world, post 1965 and the aftermath of September 11, 2001. It will include the study of historical and ideological developments of various Islam movements and Muslim groups. Finally, it will study relations betweenMuslims and non-Muslims and the prospects for the future of Islam in America.
