PrerequisiteENG 120 This course is a survey of all directions and phases of African-American writing from 1900 to the present. Particular attention is given to the writers of the Harlem Renaissance, major African-American novelists and contemporary poets. Such literary styles as the essay, short story, the novel and dialectic writing are explored. Masters of these literary styles, such as Chesnutt, Baraka, Locke, Hughes, Walker, Wright, Brooks, Ellison, Hayden and Angelou are studied.
