A survey of the growth of the United States as an industrial and world power since Reconstruction: the industrial revolution, immigration, urbanization, rise of labor, Spanish-American War, Progressivism, World War I, Twenties, Depression and New Deal, World War II, Post-World War II era and the exercise of great power status in international affairs since World War II. (Prerequisite: permission of the department. Honors course for exceptional students with ACT of 22 or higher who wish to study in small seminar-type class.)
