The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of the various computer applications and information systems that are encountered in health information departments. Topics for discussion include clinical vocabularies, data repositories (including the various registries), master patient indices, health information abstracting, transctiption, the computerized patient record, voice recognition technology and scanning. The use of databases, data collection methods, and the importance of data quality will be discussed. PREREQUISITE: HIT 115*
