This course is a study of the principles of child development and learning, and their implication to the teacher in early childhood education programs. The emphasis of this course is on safety, health, and the learning environment. This course is designed to acquaint the student with the historical roles of families in their child's development. The student will become familiar with the theories that early childhood education is based upon and learn how to develop an effective program designed uniquely for children birth to age eight. The student will also obtain knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to the care and education of young children. The course content is based upon guidelines established by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. Co-requisites: EDCC 0001, 1001, 1013, 1023, MEDL 1011(3,0,3)
