3 Credits An introduction to management, husbandry, and basic veterinary care for small animal species, emphasizing the dog and cat. A survey of signs and treatments of commonly encountered diseases. Principles of basic dietary requirements, sanitation, handling and housing procedures. Techniques in restraint, taking of vital signs, administering medications, grooming and sample collection for basic laboratory tests. Additionally, each student will rotate sanitation and nursing care for resident Program animals. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Prerequisite: Admission to VT program or permission of Coordinator.
