The attitudes, knowledge, skills and behaviors of the associate degree registered nurse are emphasized, thereby facilitating the initiation of role transition from the licensed practical nurse to the role of the associate degree registered nurse. Utilizing an integrated approach and building upon the foundation of fundamental nursing knowledge and skills, the curriculum subconcepts of critical thinking, therapeutic communication, therapeutic nursing interventions, community involvement, nursing process, teaching-learning principles, professional standards, leadership/management and interdisciplinary health care are introduced. The curriculum subconcepts are interwoven throughout the course. Topics include but are not limited to the following areas: developmental theories across the life span, care of the dying client, communication process, skin integrity and wound healing, fluid and electrolytes and acid-base imbalances, hematology, respiratory disorders, selected psychosocial nursing topics, normal obstetrical care, and normal newborn. Corequisite: NSG 2214 (Nursing Practicum I). Corequisite: NSG 2214 (Nursing Practicum I).
