3 Credits Development and cultivation of musicianship skills, especially in the areas of tonal and rhythmic perception and articulation. Presentation of the essentials of music; classification of triads and seventh chords and their inversions; introduction to analysis and part writing. Lecture 3 hours. No Laboratory. Music majors are required to take a theory proficiency test and may be required to take MUS 1002 as a prerequisite. Corequisites: Concurrent enrollment in Class Piano or Private Piano and MUS 1062 for music majors. Piano corequisite may be waived by demonstration of proficiency.
