Topics include the meaning of emancipation; the emergence of legal racial segregation; strategies of accommodation and resistance in the early 20th century; the emergence and decline of the modern civil rights movement; and contemporary issues in African American studies. Satisfies TMCC and UNR Diversity core curriculum.
