Prerequisite: NURS 105 or 116, BIOL 253 and ENGL 111. Co-requisite or previously completed: NURS 126, BIOL 232 and PSYC 111. Designed to assist the student with the integration of scientific concepts and principles and acquiring more knowledge and skill in using the nursing process. The course focuses on therapeutic and preventive nursing interventions and health promotion techniques dealing with childbearing families. Growth and development from conception through infancy are also emphasized. The nursing process provides the framework used to plan and provide care for clients and to collaborate with other health care team members. Physician's offices, hospitals and selected community agencies are used for clinical practice and observational experiences. The student acquires knowledge and skills related to interventions and health promotion techniques used with individuals experiencing the normal maternity cycle. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of complications and promotion of growth and development from conception through infancy. Lecture 2 hours. College/clinical laboratory 4 hours (taught in 8-week block). Total 12 hours per week. SP, F NURS 226 Nursing Interventions III: Adult Psycho-Social & Physiological Interventions (4 cr.) Prerequisite: NURS 126 and 127 or NURS 105 and current health care provider/professional CPR. Co-requisites or previously completed: ALHE 217, NURS 227, SOCI 111, and IST 100. Continues the integration of scientific concepts and principles and applying the nursing process in providing nursing care to middle and older adult clients experiencing alterations in mental health. Emphasis is placed on provision of care, health care team member and beginning manager of care roles using therapeutic, supportive, and preventive nursing techniques. Hospitals and selected community agencies are used for clinical practice and observational experiences. Therapeutic nursing and communication skills within the framework of the nurse-client relationship are emphasized as are various psychiatric theories and treatment modalities for common alterations in psycho-social functioning. Lecture 4 hours. College/clinical laboratory 12 hours, (taught in 8-week block). Total 16 hours per week. F, SP
