This introductory course is designed to develop basic language skills of French: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to use a basic vocabulary in simple conversation. He/she will also be able to recognize and use many regular verbs and some irregular verbs. Drills on pronunciation, usage, and grammar through oral and written exercises are used in class work. This course introduces the student to the everyday lives of French speakers, enabling the student to attain an understanding and appreciation of the culture of France and other areas of the French-speaking world. Grade determination is based on class participation, completion of assignments and class projects, periodic quizzes, unit tests, and the final exam. Three hours of lecture per week.
